New Swag Photos!

Design guy checking in with an update!

Some folks have been asking about how to score a copy of the savage poster art we put together to help promote the run. There's good news and bad news.

Good news - Our retro trash promo print of the poster is complete and ready to roll out, measuring in at just shy of 9" x 12". We're not greedy, we don't want all your wall space. And, as a bonus, we've got business cards and punk rock buttons for you cats. Even better, they're free.

Bad news is that they're limited quantity. Scoring gear is gonna take work. Catch us at any of our pre-run meetups (you'll find the events posted on the GBR Facebook page as they surface) or during the ride to get some.

Check HERE for photos of the goods and get down to a meetup before we're out of junk to give away. Next meetup is this Saturday (April 27th) from 12-3 at the mighty Town Moto on Ossington in Toronto, so come shoot the shit and support those cats.

GEAR AND FOOD

Thought it might be helpful to make a quick list of essential gear for camping on a motorcycle. There are a lot of websites with huge checklists for what to take, but here is what I am bringing based on some experience:

• Motorcycle gear (jacket, boots, gloves, helmet etc)
• 2 sets of clothing + spare socks
• Rain gear
• Extra pair of gloves
• Tent
• Sleeping pad (foam or inflatable)
• Sleeping bag
• Stuff sack pillow (stuff it with hoodie, tshirts etc)
• Pocket knife
• Flashlight/Headlamp
• Sunglasses
• Basic tool kit
• Cell phone charger
• First aid kit
• Bug spray
• Toiletries
• Snacks - Cheese, jerky, crackers etc. Trail mix. Granola bars. Water. Apples.
• Booze – Tallboys or a handle of the finest hooch
• Cash
• Spare garbage bags and large ziplock baggies
• Whatever else you can’t live without

Optional:
• Extra footware
• Towel
• Tarp, extra pegs, string or rope
• Kickstand support (little wood square to go under stand)
• Camp chair
• Camera

I have found it is helpful to pack your gear into two bags – one for easy access items like rain gear, camera and sunglasses and one for your camping gear. I have an 80 litre pack I can strap to my bike to carry all this shit plus a smaller bag. Room to spare. A duffle bag would work fine I typically use bungee cords with hooks of the variety available at Canadian tire. They are cheap and do a great job. Ratchet straps are a huge overkill.. If you are hard core I’m sure you could do the weekend with a blanket and a bottle of whiskey but that is up to you. We are running rain or shine so some $35 rain gear from Rona or Canadian Tire goes a long way to you not dying of hypothermia in the rain. If you lack gear, many outdoor stores will rent sleeping bags, tents and sleeping pads. I like to pack anything that I don’t want to get wet in garbage bags or large ziplock bags within my main bag. Its not much fun to try to sleep in a soggy sleeping bag. Protip – Don’t leave any food or anything that smells like food (gum, toothpaste, beef jerky) in your tent, ever, unless you want to wake up with a skunk or a bear sitting on your junk trying to get at the half eaten snickers bar in your pocket.

What About the Food????

After we did this route last year, food availability was only sketchy on the first evening. Here is our plan for food on this trip, obviously you can do whatever you want. Strap a hibachi to your handlebars or eat some dirt, we don't care. Anyone could bring pots, pans, grills, stoves etc. and do all their cooking on site, but if luggage space is at a premium (which it usually is on a motorcycle) here is a decent alternative.

Friday
- Breakfast at meetup Tim Hortons
- Snack/coffee break somewhere up Hwy 11
- Bring some cheese, crackers, etc for dinner. Maybe some hotdogs to cook over the fire. Restaurants may be kind of hard to come by in the pre-tourist season French River.

Saturday
- Breakfast/Coffee at some wilderness diner or wait until Sudbury
- Lunch/Coffee in Espanola. Great little mill town at the top end of Manitoulin. Buy some dinner at the grocery store.
- Dinner at Hutchinson's Cabins. I expect they'll have a BBQ we could borrow, I'll check in advance. I'm thinking burgers and brats on the grill + veg alternatives if people are into that.

Sunday
- Breakfast waiting for the ferry at South Baymouth.
- Lunch and snacks are available on the ferry
- Dinner and beers in Sauble Beach

Monday
- Who knows? Lots of places to eat back in Southern Ontario.
